Mélange Lavonne

MÉLANGE LAVONNE is an outspoken, openly lesbian hip-hop artist who has been performing to audiences across the nation. Her passionate lyrics and intense performances have stirred many across the world.

She displays honesty and conviction in her material, rapping about who she is and the blatant discrimination many have been faced with based on their sexual orientation. She recorded a very intense song called “Gay Bash”, which delved into the death of her fictional best friend Kevin at the hands of gay bashers. A compelling music video of the song was made which made it onto LOGO, where it received frequent rotation, making it a staple on their Top Ten list called “The Click List” throughout the summer of 2007 and the year end Top Ten for their New Now Next music show.

Audiences across the nation have witnessed her compelling live performances. She has performed on the Main Stage at the 2007 and 2008 Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride Festival, two years in a row at OUTFEST’s Sabor Con Fusion, in Boston and Connecticut as part of the HomoRevolution Tour's 2008 New England dates, and at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark as part of OUT LOUD PROUD II. She returns to the East Coast as part of the D.C. Capital Pride celebrations in June and the NYC Pride Rally at Bryant Park on June 22, 2008. She will make her San Francisco debut at the 38th Annual San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration on June 29, 2008.

She has just released her new CD, "The Movement", which establishes Lavonne's blend of conscious and intelligent hip hop rap, taking on the foes of equality and justice. Her songs tackle issues such as gay parenting, domestic abuse, AIDS, the Presidential campaigns, discrimination, and global warming, to name a few.

Her second music video, from “The Movement”, is “I Got You” and deals with gay parenting.
