Pride’s Grant Giving program makes a difference

San Francisco LGBT Pride Committee gave back to the community via our grant giving Community Partner program $137,000 in the 2005 Season. In conjunction with this year’s theme, “Commemorate, Educate, Liberate and Celebrate” – we had asked our grantees to educate us on how this grant money has come to benefit their organization. Many organizations wrote that because of their participation in the program they were able to continue in the preservation of our queer community history and education, continue their own programming (during this frightful time of budget cuts!), to fund their own fundraising events and then in turn continuing the community giving, all the way to buying team equipment and uniforms!

Our thanks go to the Community Partner Team, in office Darren Nandagiri, for Beverage Andy Copper and his efficient Beverage Team, and Aaron Dence (all heart and soul) and his Donations Team. Without the community partners dedication to our mission and donation of volunteers hours – this program and SF LGBT Pride ability to put together such a fabulous weekend would not happen. It takes a community of like-minded invivduals to make a difference, and the Community Partner program is a testament!

If you are interested in learning more about the program for the 2006 SF LGBT Pride Season, please contact Darren Nandagiri at darrenn@sfpride.org .

Forgotten Milk?

The SF LGBT Pride team received a provocative email from Daniel Nicoletta, co-chair for Harvey Milk City Hall Memorial Committee on the 27th anniversary of Harvey Milk’s assassination. The email featured a Guest Opinion written by Cleve Jones for the BAR revealing what I suspect the Queer Community (at large) fears. To read more about it, please click here.

SF LGBT Pride eNewsletter subscribers - your input is necessary!

For a short time, the SF LGBT Pride Committee is opening up its emails to our eNewsletter subscribers to hear their input on this year’s event. Who would YOU like to see on Main Stage, as a celebrity grand marshal, as a speaker at the event – or any other area you can think of. We eagerly await your email letting us know your thoughts at info@sfpride.org. Be sure to put it in plain text, no attachments, keep it short (please) – and reference “In my opinion….” Suggestions sent after February 15th will be too late for consideration for the 2006 event, but will be considered for the 2007 event.

A word from the Renoir

The Renoir Hotel San Francisco is proud to continuously support the LGBT community and participate in the annual Pride Parade and Celebration as an official travel partner.  As one of the last independent boutique hotels in San Francisco, this 1909 architectural splendor offers the best views of the Parade, easy access to all Pride activities at the Civic Center and continues to "stand up, stand out, and stand proud" with the LGBT community.  We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire SF Pride Committee, all the volunteers, our welcome package partners, and all our guests for once again choosing the Renoir Hotel San Francisco.  Please call (800) 576-3388 or email emmanuel@renoirhotel.com to receive our E-brochure and book your rooms for next year.  We look forward to seeing you in 2006!

Float Resource Program, get an early start!

For the last several years, San Francisco LGBT Pride has been pleased to offer the community the opportunity to have the access to free float trailers and a float barn, providing them a chance to embellish their contingent's message in the parade.

This tradition continues with the 2006 Float Resource Program. Those who wish to participate should visit the SF Pride Web site after January 15th, to view the request for proposal FAQ and download an application form.

Start designing those float ideas now! Be sure to colorfully incorporate your message with this year's theme Commemorate, Educate, Liberate — Celebrate!, and you might receive a fabulous award from our Parade judges! For more information, you can send a query to the Parade Manager (parade@sfpride.org).
