San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration Committee Announces Parade Grand Marshal Nominations Open Community Invited to Make Nominations for Parade Grand Marshals San Francisco, CA 12 January 2007 The San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration Committee (SFLGBTPCC) announced today that nominations are now officially open for Grand Marshals of this year’s San Francisco LGBT Pride Parade. Members of the community are invited to nominate individuals and organizations for this prestigious honor. The San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration and Parade is the largest LGBT event in the United States. San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration Committee President, Mikayla Connell, said: “The selection of Pride’s Community Grand Marshals is one of the most exciting and important parts of putting together the Pride celebration. Through the Grand Marshal nominating and voting process, the community has a chance to meet and honor some of its most beloved, valuable, hard-working and important contributors. We invite everyone in our community to come forward and help us give recognition to these community leaders and local heroes.” The process for nominating an individual or organization is as follows:
The Pride Committee and its membership will review the nominations and refine the list to ensure diversity. The public will then be invited to vote in two categories, individual, and organization. Depending upon the number of votes cast there may be one or more grand marshals per category. If there is a clear and overwhelming vote for one person or organization then the Board will ratify the winner as the Grand Marshal but, where there is a more even spread of votes, the Board of Directors may choose multiple Grand Marshals. Voting will take place at special polling booths in the community as well as by ballots printed in the LGBT media. San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration Committee Executive Director Lindsey Jones said: “The Grand Marshal nomination and polling process gives our community the chance to recognize individuals for their commitment to a strong and vital LGBT community. And for those who are chosen to represent as grand Marshals, this is a once in a lifetime experience - riding down the parade route being cheered by a crowd of hundreds of thousands of people in the nation’s largest Pride event.” About San LGBT Pride Celebration Committee (SFLGBTPCC) About San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration & Parade Lindsey Jones San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration Committee
