April 2, 2008 San Francisco, CA – April 2, 2008 – At last night’s board of directors meeting of the San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration Committee results of the public vote for Grand Marshal were verified and released. The top number of votes were received by: Evan Low for Individual Community Grand Marshal Gay Asian Pacific Alliance (GAPA) for Organizational Community Grand Marshal Bill O’Reilly to receive the Pink Brick (the infamous Pink Brick Award is a faux 'award' presented each year to a person or organization that has done significant harm to LGBT communities) Runners up (in this order and by category): Individual Community Grand Marshal : Shannon Minter Trauma Flintstone Organizational Community Grand Marshal AIDS Project East Bay GroundSpark Pink Brick: Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Voting took place at special polling booths in the community, through mail-in ballots available on the San Francisco Pride website and through ballots printed in the LGBT press. This year’s Grand Marshals will join a highly diverse and esteemed group of past Grand Marshals and as is tradition, they will serve as ambassadors of the San Francisco Pride Celebration and Parade. Six more Grand Marshals will be selected by May 5th and they are: Lifetime Achievement Grand Marshal, Membership and Electoral College selected Individual Grand Marshals and Grand Marshals will also be named by the board of directors at the May 6th meeting.
