Transgender Day of Remembrance 2023

November 17, 2023

Across the world, November 20th is recognized as Transgender Day of Remembrance. We remember and honor members of our trans family lost to us through violence or suicide this year and in years past.

According to the Human Rights Campaign, at least 33 transgender and gender non-conforming people have been killed by violence in the past 12 months (Nov 20, 2022 - Nov 20, 2023).

According to the Human Rights Campaign, of the 26 transgender and gender non-conforming people who were victims of fatal violence in 2023, 88% of victims were people of color and 54% were Black transgender women.

In 2023, for the first time in their 40+ year history, the Human Rights Campaign declared a National State of Emergency for LGBTQ+ Americans, in response to the over 550 anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced into state houses across the country, more than 80 of which were passed into law.
